MediaTek has just announced the Kompanio Ultra, a powerful new SoC designed to bring a significant AI boost to Chromebooks. The SoC is built on an advanced 3nm process and promises enhanced performance and efficiency. The Kompanio Ultra is being positioned as the most powerful Chromebook chipset yet. So, we can now expect high-performance Chromebook Plus devices in the near future.
Kompanio Ultra features an “all-big-core” architecture, which includes eight Arm Cortex-X925 cores without any smaller support units. This unique design reportedly delivers up to 18% better performance while consuming 50% less power compared to competing chipsets. If these claims hold up, Chromebooks could see a major leap in both speed and battery life.
The Kompanio Ultra is built to integrate seamlessly with Google Gemini, Google’s latest AI model. It has an 8th-generation NPU to deliver 50 TOPS of AI power. It ensures faster and more efficient AI-driven tasks. Now that Google is shifting from Google Assistant to Gemini across ChromeOS, the Kompanio Ultra can offer flawless AI performance for both productivity and everyday use.
Kompanio Ultra also introduces support for 60fps gaming on top Android titles. Additionally, users can connect up to two external 4K displays. This makes Chromebooks even more versatile for multitasking.
It also supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0 to provide extreme wireless speeds and better signal range.
