Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 16e, the most affordable model in the iPhone 16 series. While the new smartphone retains many of the core features expected from an iPhone, one key omission is the lack of MagSafe wireless charging support. Yes, the iPhone 16e lacks MagSafe support.

This decision has sparked discussions among iPhone users because MagSafe has become an integral part of the Apple ecosystem over the years.

MagSafe is Apple’s proprietary magnetic wireless charging system that was introduced with the iPhone 12 series. It allows users to attach a variety of accessories, such as MagSafe-compatible chargers, battery packs, wallets, and car mounts, to the back of their iPhones using built-in magnets. The system not only ensures a secure attachment but also provides faster and more efficient charging—up to 15W when using a certified MagSafe charger. Over the years, MagSafe has enabled a growing ecosystem of accessories.

iPhone 16e supports only standard Qi wireless charging. You can charge it using any standard Qi wireless charger but cannot snap onto MagSafe stands, car mounts, or other accessories that rely on magnets for secure placement. The iPhone 16e is also limited to 7.5W charging speeds using standard Qi chargers.

The iPhone 16e debuts Apple’s first in-house modem, the Apple C1, and is rumored to feature a slightly larger battery. The iPhone 16e delivers solid performance with the A18 chip. However, the omission of MagSafe is a disappointing drawback for many people.
