Redmi A4 5G doesn’t support Airtel 5G

Redmi A4 5G

The Redmi A4 5G is one of the most affordable 5G smartphones in India. It was launched recently at a competitive pricing. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset and offers 5G connectivity at just Rs. 8499. However, there’s an important thing most people should know.

The Redmi A4 5G does not support Airtel’s 5G network.

This is because Redmi A4 5G is designed to work exclusively with SA (standalone) 5G networks. Airtel’s 5G infrastructure is based on NSA (non-standalone) technology. NSA 5G uses existing 4G infrastructure alongside 5G technology. It makes it a hybrid solution adopted by carriers like Airtel. On the other hand, SA 5G operates independently of 4G and is a more advanced network architecture.

So, Airtel users will only be able to access 4G connectivity on the Redmi A4 5G. If you use Airtel, you shouldn’t buy Redmi A4 5G unless you want to compromise with 5G connectivity. However, Jio users can enjoy seamless 5G speeds since Jio’s network is fully compatible with SA technology.

Redmi A4 5G offers impressive specifications for its price point. It has a 6.88-inch HD+ LCD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, 50MP dual rear cameras, 5MP front-facing camera, and 5,160mAh with 18W fast charging support. It comes in two variants 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and 6GB RAM + 128GB storage priced at ₹8,499 and ₹9,499, respectively.

While the Redmi A4 5G is an attractive choice, its SA-only 5G compatibility restricts its usability for Airtel users. The phone is going on sale in the country starting today. If you were planning to buy it, you should avoid buying it if you use Airtel.
