A faulty CrowdStrike update crashed around 8.5 million Windows devices on Friday and halted the operation of several businesses around the world. The issue affected IT companies, Airports, hospitals, news businesses, and several other companies.

We already have a workaround to fix the BSOS issue caused by a faulty CrowdStrike update. I have already written an article explaining how to manually remove the problematic driver to get the Windows system back to work.

Now Microsoft has released a recovery tool to help IT admins and support staff. This tool automatically removes the buggy CrowdStrike update, so your system boots normally.

You can download this tool from Microsoft Download Center: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2280386

This tool requires a Windows 64-bit client with at least 8GB RAM. The user needs administrative privileges, a USB device with at least 1 GB of storage, and a Bitlocker recovery key if Bitlocker is enabled. It is worth noting that the USD device should be 32GB or smaller. Otherwise, you won’t be able to format it with FAT32.

On Microsoft’s community page, Microsoft has also detailed how to use recovery WinPE media. Refer to that page for clear instructions.
