After X introduced the ads-free Premium+ plan, Meta also announced an ad-free subscription plan for Facebook and Instagram for the European Union (EU). The company introduced this plan to adhere to the EU’s recent GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) law.
Users in the EU, EEA, and Switzerland will have a choice to either stay with ads-supported free version or subscribe to the ad-free premium version by paying some money. The subscription plan costs €9.99/month on the web or €12.99/month on the app. This single plan covers both Facebook and Instagram accounts.
Meanwhile, advertisers will still be able to run personalized advertising campaigns in Europe to those users who remain on the free ad-supported access.
Meta still says that it believes in ad-supported internet because it provides users access to personalized products and services. Small businesses can also reach potential customers and grow their business in new markets.
Meta’s core business is still around free social networks as it heavily relies on ad revenue. Providing the free tier wasn’t easy as the company had to redesign its core function. But they had to do it for complying with data privacy rules and other government policies.
