India’s leading telecom operator Reliance Jio has introduced JioSpaceFiber, India’s first satellite-based gigabit broadband service. The service promises to provide high-speed internet access to consumers in areas where the network was previously unreachable due to several reasons. The company also demonstrated the service at the IMC 2023 event.

JioSpaceFiber uses the latest medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite technology that can deliver fiber-like services from space. The company partnered with SES, a global leader in satellite communications, to use its O3b and O3b mPOWER satellites.

The company has already started resting the service in four remote locations: Gir Gujarat, Korba Chattisgarh, Nabrangpur Odissa, and ONGC-Jorhat Assam.

JioSpaceFiber aims to provide wireless broadband services to organizations working in the government, education, health, and entertainment sectors.

At this moment, we have no information on when the company plans to launch JioSpaceFiber. We also have no information regarding pricing. Once the service is available to consumers, it will compete against Starlink from SpaceX, Project Kuiper from Amazon, and OneWeb from Bharti
