YouTube is testing blocking videos unless you disable ad blockers

YouTube

In a bid to boost its earning, YouTube now wants users to stop using ad blockers. The company is running an experiment asking some users to disable ad blockers for watching videos. If the ad blocker is enabled, they are not allowed to watch videos.

A Reddit user posted a screenshot of the pop-up warning YouTube shows for users who are using ad blockers.

After receiving this pop-up, users only have two options: Either disable their ad blocker to allow YouTube Ads or subscribe to YouTube Premium to get rid of all advertisements.

It is not clear how big this experiment is. There is also no info on what regions the company is showing this notification. YouTube wants users to subscribe to YouTube Premium for getting ads free and videos. It will also help creators. If you watch videos with ad blockers, it also affects creators who work really hard to provide you with quality content.

Ad blocker detection is not a new concept. Several websites ask users to disable ad blockers for getting access to the content. It is also a necessity. Publications spent thousands of dollars on content creation and make it available to all users for free. The only way they could earn is Ads. But the use of ad blockers has made it really tough for small publications to survive.
