The Central Government has blocked access to 14 mobile messaging apps over security concerns. As per reports, these apps were used by terrorists to receive messages from Pakistan and communicate with their supporters. These apps have been blocked under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, of 2000.
We don’t have any official list to confirm the names of apps blocked by the government. However, a source told News18 a few names of apps. These names include Crypviser, Enigma, Safeswiss, Wickrme, Mediafire, Briar, BChat, Nandbox, Conion, IMO, Element, Second line, Zangi, and Threema.
On multiple occasions, investigation agencies found these apps on mobile phones recovered from terrorists killed in operations. At least one of these apps was also found in the mobile phones of the ground workers of terrorists.
None of these apps gave their representatives in India, so the government couldn’t contact anyone for seeking information. After failing to contact app developers, the government decided to block these apps in the country.
Most of these apps are designed to provide anonymity to users. So, it is also not easy to trace users and their communication. This is the reason terrorists are using these apps for their communication. They are using these apps to spread terror propaganda and incite youths in Jammu and Kashmir.
