Twitter will start removing legacy blue checkmarks from the platform starting April 1. Twitter users who want to retain their blue check need to subscribe to its Blue subscription.

When Elon Musk bought Twitter, he promised to get rid of ‘legacy’ blue check marks given under Twitter’s previous rules. He said that previous verification badges were given out in a “corrupt and nonsensical” manner.

Twitter users can purchase Twitter Blue for $8 per month ($11 per month on Android and iOS). Twitter Blue gives users a blue check mark that was previously available only to verified profiles. Twitter Blue also provides several exclusive features including fewer ads, prioritized ranking in conversations, the ability to write long tweets, undo tweets, edit tweets, and bookmark folders.

It is worth noting that April 1 is known as April Fool’s Day. Considering how badly Elon Musk likes to troll people, this announcement could also be a prank.
