It seems YouTube is doing everything right to win the short video war. YouTube Shorts has now surpassed 50 billion daily views. During the fourth quarter earnings call, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai confirmed these numbers. YouTube previously reported 30 billion daily views in its Q1 2022 earnings.

50 Billion daily views seems a huge number, but it still lags behind Reels which had 140 billion daily views on both Instagram and Facebook back in October. Starting this month, YouTube will let creators monetize their Shorts. It will surely give Shorts another boost.

YouTube Shorts is a short video format on YouTube where users post vertical videos of up to 60 seconds in length. Users can also add licensed music and on-screen captions. After TikTok became really popular and Instagram’s Reels started growing, YouTube also launched Shorts to fill the market gap. In a very short span of time, YouTube managed to grow well.

Pichai also confirmed that YouTube Music and Premium subscription is also growing and has surpassed 80 million subscribers including trials. YouTube earned $7.96 billion during the quarter which was down 8% from $8.63 billion in the previous year’s December quarter.

YouTube is the primary platform for creators who are now earning full-time earnings via the YouTube partnership program. Creators create different kinds of content including Long videos, short videos, podcasts, live streams, and music. By using different monetization options, creators are earning well.
