Instagram Co-Founders launches an AI-Powered News App ‘Artifact’

Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger have released a new app called Artifact. Artifact is a news aggregation app that uses a TikTok-like recommendation algorithm.

The app is currently in private beta. If you are interested in trying the app, you can join the waitlist from the official website.

The app will show a feed populated by stories from popular news publications. As you read more articles, it will start offering personalized news. The algorithm gives time spent on various topics importance and will prioritize engaging material.

Systrom claims that Artifact will provide its readers with high-quality news and information. So, it will only include publishers who adhere to editorial standards of quality. The platform will also remove individual posts that promote falsehoods.

Artifact will also feature a social element that allows users to follow other users. The app will then highlight articles from users you follow. Users will also be able to discuss the news with a friend through a direct-message inbox.

Now most apps such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube use AI to recommend content. Twitter is already a popular source of News. Google News, Apple News Flipboard, and News360 are a few popular News apps. So, Artifact already has a tough competitors. It will be interesting to see if Artifact gets traction.
