As expected, Google has finally unveiled its long-rumored chatbot AI project. Google calls it Bard. Bard is powered by LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications) which was announced two years ago, at the 2021 Google I/O keynote. The company should reveal more details about Bard on Wednesday during the ‘Google Presents’ event.
Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai describes it as an “experimental conversational AI service” that can answer queries and take part in conversations. The company claims that Bard can answer different questions and can also simplify complex topics. Google has also posted a small video demonstrating how users can ask something and get the results.
Initially, Bard uses the lightweight model version of LaMDA that requires less computing power. This will help the company to scale to more users in the coming weeks. Google’s Bard is now available to a group of “trusted testers” starting today. It will be available to the public in the coming weeks. The company will use the feedback to make sure Bard meets a high bar for quality, safety, and groundedness in real-world information.
Over the past few years, Google has been summarising search results using AI. This feature will become even better in the future.
“Soon, you’ll see AI-powered features in Search that distill complex information and multiple perspectives into easy-to-digest formats, so you can quickly understand the big picture and learn more from the web: whether that’s seeking out additional perspectives, like blogs from people who play both piano and guitar, or going deeper on a related topic, like steps to get started as a beginner. These new AI features will begin rolling out on Google Search soon,” explains Sundar Pichai.
