The Indian government has blocked website, mobile apps, smart TV app, and social media accounts of Pakistan-based OTT platform Vidly TV. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued the order under the emergency powers of the IT Rules 2021.

The OTT platform recently released a new web series titled “Sevak: The Confessions.” The ministry claims that the web series was found to be detrimental to national security, sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of the State, and India’s friendly relations with foreign States.

The web series has portrayed several sensitive historical events including Operation Blue Star, the demolition of the Babri Masjid, the killing of a Christian missionary, the Samjhauta Express blasts, the Sutlej Yamuna Link canal, and more in a wrong manner. This show is spreading hatred for Hindu communities.

In one of the scenes, the web series showed a Hindu priest teaching Hindu children to kill Muslims, Christians, and Sikhs when they grow up. In another scene, Scheduled Castes are being forced to remain Hindus.

The first episode of the web series was also released on 26 November, the anniversary of the terror attacks on Mumbai in 2008. It was also suspected that the web series was sponsored by Pakistan’s secret agency ISI.
