Snap, the parent company of Snapchat, has announced the launch of the Sounds Creator Fund in India to help young, independent artists in India The company will provide monthly grants of up to $50,000 to independent artists through this fund.

With this move, the company wants to reach India’s regional content creators and access the Indian market.

“Beginning in mid-November, Snap will provide monthly grants of up to $50,000 to emerging, independent artists distributing music on Snapchat via DistroKid, and driving the creation of content on the platform,” the company said in a statement.

DistroKid is a digital music distribution service that helps artists distribute their music to different music streaming platforms and social media apps.

Snap’s Sounds feature lets users add licensed music to their Snaps and Stories. Now the feature is widely used by Indian users to enhance their Snaps and Stories.

The Sounds Creator Fund is already available in the US and the company, with the help of DistroKid, distributes payments of $2,500 per artist to up to 20 artists per month.

To be eligible, an artist must be at least 16 years old and must be based in India.
