Google Assistant can now change your passwords

Google Assistant

Last year, Google said that Assistant would offer to change passwords if you want. Now the company is rolling it out to Chrome users for desktop and Android. If you log in on a website whose password has been compromised, you will get a ‘change your password.’ On some of the websites, you will also get an option to have the Assistant change the password automatically.

This feature uses Google’s web version of Duplex to navigate through the website and change the password. Duplex is an AI-based feature that knows how to click links, scroll the page, and fill the form. So, it doesn’t require human intervention.

At this moment, this feature only works on limited websites. When the feature was initially launched last year, it was only available to a relatively small group of users. Now the company is expanding the feature to more users.

We saw several data breaches each year. Not all users are proactive enough to check if their account details were also compromised in a data breach. So, Google’s ‘Change your password’ alert and this automatic password change feature will be really helpful to many people.
