Facebook introduces new ways to help creators avoid Apple’s App Store fees

Facebook

Facebook has announced another bonus program to attract more creators to its platform. The company is introducing a new subscription model that will help creators avoid Apple’s 30% App Store commission on in-app purchases.

Facebook has introduced web subscriptions that let an individual subscribe to a creator by clicking on a link and paying using Facebook Pay. The subscriber isn’t paying within the app, so Apple cannot charge the in-app purchase commission and creators will keep all the money they earn.

The company has also confirmed that it will pay creators between $5 and $20 for each new subscriber until the end of the year. Each creator can earn up to $10,000 in bonuses.

Facebook has also confirmed that creators can download their subscriber lists in order to have “more ownership of their audience.” Subscriber list will include the email addresses of all their new subscribers.

It is worth noting that a California judge ruled that Apple could no longer block developers from pointing users toward external payment options while hearing Epic Games vs. Apple case. This decision made it possible for Facebook to introduce external payments for subscriptions. Apple has already appealed the ruling,

Apple will surely not be happy after Facebook’s decision to help creators get away from Apple’s in-app purchase commission. This is also not Facebook’s first major clash with Apple. Facebook has already been suffering revenue loss after Apple introduced anti-tracking features in iOS 14. Since then, Facebook is also trying to fight back in different ways.
