Microsoft now says that users can remove passwords from their Microsoft accounts and start using other methods to sign in. This option has already been available t0 enterprise users for the past few months.

Users can use the Microsoft Authenticator app, Windows Hello, or security key sent to SMS or emails for logging into their Outlook, OneDrive, Microsoft Family Safety, and even Xbox Series X/S.

After installing and linking your Microsoft account to the Authenticator app, you can switch off the password from your account. You can foo this by going to Microsoft account settings -> Advanced Security Options -> Additional Security.

If you can switch back to password-based login anytime you want.

Passwords are the prime target for cyberattacks. Even if users select a strong password, data breach put their accounts at risk. Weak passwords or reused passwords can be either guessed or cracked through brute-forcing.

Microsoft confirmed that passwordless sign-in will be rolled out to consumer accounts over the coming weeks.
