Samsung recently launched Galaxy Watch 4 series based on Google’s new Wear OS platform. Soon after the launch, Spotify also announced a significant update to its Wear OS app. Now the Spotify Wear OS app lets you stream and download music straight to your watch. So, you don’t need your smartphone for listing to music.

If you own a smartwatch running Wear OS, you can directly stream Spotify music on the watch and download songs for listening to offline. The app lets you download all of your favorite music and podcasts to your smartwatch and listen to it anytime you need. Just pair your Bluetooth earphones directly to your watch. You don’t need to keep your smartphone with you all the time.

For downloading music, playlists, and podcasts, you still need a Premium subscription. Free users will be able to just stream using WiFi or a cellular connection.

Even if the banner image on the blog post notes Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 series, this update will also arrive on smartwatches from Fossil, Mobvoi, and Suunto. It should also work on older smartwatches running at least Wear OS 2.0 or higher.

The new version of the Spotify Wear OS app will be rolling out “in the coming weeks.”
