Earlier this year, Xiaomi unveiled a charging tech that can wirelessly charge smartphones. Now the company is working on another innovative charging tech. This tech can charge smartphones with sound.

According to a report by GizChina, Xiaomi has applied for a new patent with the state agency China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA). The patent application reveals that the company has been working on a technology that converts sound waves to alternative current to charge smartphones.

This tech mainly includes two components. One is the sound collection device that converts environmental vibration to mechanical vibration. The second is the plurality of energy conversion device that converts mechanical vibration to alternating current.

The patent suggests that the tech can be used to charge smartphones and other electronic devices without the need for any power socket.

In the past, we have seen patent applications for several innovative technologies that are yet to become reality. So, we cannot say if Xiaomi will ever use it in its smartphones.

Xiaomi has been testing several kinds of charing tech for the past few years. Recently, it unveiled Air Charge to wirelessly charge electronic devices. It also recently launched 120W charging tech and now working on 200W charging tech.
