Back in February, it was reported that Xiaomi is working n a 200W smartphone charging tech. Now the company has official introduced its new 200W wired and 120W wireless HyperCharge tech.

This new 200W charging can charge a 4,000mAh battery to 100% in just eight minutes. The 120W wireless HyperCharge charges the same battery in 15 minutes. Xiaomi also posted a video to show how this new HyperCharge tech works on a custom build of the Mi 11 Pro.

Xiaomi didn’t confirm when this charging tech will be implemented in smartphones. Such fast charging will produce more heat. As a result, the battery will degrade faster. So, the smartphone should have a proper mechanism to keep the phone cool while it is being charged.

Xiaomi has a long history of innovating fast charging tech. Almost 2 years ago, the company introduced 100W fast charging that could charge a 4000 mAh battery in 17 minutes. Last year, it improved this tech to 120W fast charging. It charges a 4500mAh battery in 23 minutes. Now we have a 200W fast charing.

Oppo is another smartphone brand that has been innovating fast charging tech for years. Oppo’s VOOC is the basis of OnePlus’ Warp charge.

As a consumer, it feels good to have such fast charging. But it doesn’t go well in a long run. Battery starts losing capacity faster and it requires multiple top-ups a day.

It will be interesting to see how this 200W HyperCharge works in real-world usage.
