Today, the Delhi government has announced that it has permitted home delivery of liquor in the state. Customers can place an order through mobile apps and website
For allowing home delivery of liquor, the government has amended existing excise rules. Vendors who hold the L-13 license are allowed to deliver both Indian and foreign liquor to customers for orders received via the app or online.
It is worth mentioning that you cannot get liquor orders delivered to hostels, institutions, and offices. Not all shops can process home delivery. So, you cannot ask your local shop to deliver the liquor to your home. A liquor retailer will have to acquire the L-13 license to be eligible for home delivery.
The Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC) welcomed the government’s move. This move will also boost the government’s revenue at a time when the government is already facing funds crisis.
Last year, some states including Kolkata, Maharashtra, Odisha, Siliguri, and West Bengal allowed home delivery of liquor by partnering with platforms such as Amazon, BigBasket, Swiggy, and Zomato. We are not sure what model of delivery will be followed in Delhi.
