Apple Music Spatial Audio

After weeks of rumors, Apple today announced the launch of Spatial Audio and lossless audio for Apple Music subscribers. Good thing is that it will be included in the existing subscription at no additional cost.

Apple also claims that it will have 75 million lossless audio songs on Apple Music by the end of this year.

To turn on the lossless audio, you need to update the Apple Music app. Then you can go to Settings > Music > Audio Quality. Here, you can opt for different audio resolutions for different connections. Lossless audio starts at CD quality (16 bit at 44.1 kHz) and goes up to 24 bit at 48 kHz on Apple devices. You can even choose two get 24 bit at 192 kHz but that requires external equipment, such as a USB digital-to-analog converter (DAC).

The Spatial audio will be enabled by default on hardware that supports Dolby Atmos. If you own AirPods and Beats headphones with an H1 or W1 chip, you get it by default. Most recent AirPods and Beats headphones with an H1 or W1 chip also offer Dolby Atmos support.

Apple Music subscription starts at Rs. 99 per month. Student plan costs Rs. 49 per month. You can get the family plan at Rs. 149 per month and share it with up to 6 members.

Lossless audio is now becoming standard on music streaming apps. Spotify is planning to launch its HiFi tier later this year. Amazon has also introduced Amazon Music HD starting today.
