India’s e-commerce giant Flipkart and EDEL by Mahindra Logistics have announced a partnership for electric vehicles. Under this partnership, Flipkart will deploy electric vehicles for last-mile deliveries. Last-mile delivery is the process where the parcel moves from the transportation hub to the final destination. Flipkart has confirmed that it will deploy over 25,000 EVs in its fleet by 2030.
EDEL will also help Flipkart in building supporting infrastructure and technology such as charging stations, battery swapping stations, route planning, training workforce, and parking lots in the near future.
“Electrification of the logistics fleet is an important part of Flipkart’s larger sustainability goal and a key focus area for the company,” Flipkart’s supply chain senior vice president Hemant Badri said. “We are happy to have Mahindra Logistics on board as a logistics partner, who will play a major role in helping us achieve our vision of making our logistics fleet fully electric by 2030.”
EDEL is the electric delivery brand by Mahindra Logistics launched last year across six cities in India. EDEL aims to partner with various OEMs to help with logistics.
Back in June 2019, Flipkart announced its plan to convert at least 40 percent of its fleet into electric vehicles. The company has already partnered with leading electric vehicle manufacturers, including Hero Electric, Mahindra Electric, and Piaggio to deliver EVs in its logistics fleet.
