Xiaomi has just unveiled another innovative smartphone Mi Mix Fold in its Mix series of smartphones. This is the company’s first foldable phone but main innovation is not the foldable thing.
Mi Mix Fold features an external 6.52-inch AMOLED display with wide aspect ratio of 27:9. This display has 90 Hz refresh rate and 180 Hz touch sampling rate. It supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. When you unfold the phone, it reveals a 8.01-inch OLED panel with 4:3 aspect ratio to give you a tablet like feeling, This display also supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. It is rated at 600 nits of brightness with a peak of 900 nits.
XIaomi has developed a U-shaped hinge for foldable operation. The company claims that the hinge can sustain over a million folds without issues.
The phone packs Snapdragon 888 chipset with 3,200 MHz LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage for speedy performance. There are three models 12/256 GB, 12/512 GB, and 16/512 GB. Xiaomi has also included a butterfly-type cooling system along with a large vapor chamber, thermal gel, and multiple layers of graphite sheets. This cooling system covers a chipset, 5G antennas, and fast charging system to ensure the temperature of the phone doesn’t go beyond a limit. Xiaomi has also developed a Surge C1 image processing chip that rubs 3A algorithms – Auto Focus, Auto Exposure, and Auto White Balance.
Mi Mix Fold also has a desktop mode that turns the UI of this divide into a traditional computer. In desktop mode, you can work on multiple resizable windows. Just use simple three-finger swipe to enter into the desktop mode.
The most notable thing about this phone is the camera setup. Xiaomi has included the world’s first Liquid Lens technology in the telephoto camera of the phone. This lens can change its shape just like in the human eye. Xiaomi claims that this lens can function in extreme temperatures ranging from -40ºC to 60ºC. So, consumers won’t have to worry about it. This lens offers an optical magnification ratio from 3x to 30x and has a minimum focus distance of just 3 cm. There’s an 8 megapixels sensor behind this unique lens.
The phone has 108 megapixels primary camera that supports 9-in-1 binning but lacks OIS. It also has a 13 megapixels ultrawide-angle camera with a 123º field of view.
Mi Mix Fold also has quad speaker setup and includes four 1216 super linear speakers. These speakers are driven by 15V amps. Xiaomi has also developed a 3D spacial audio algorithm to create an immersive experience.
The phone packs a 5,020 mAh battery that is split into two 2,460 mAh cells. This battery supports 67W wired charging. Xiaomi claims that it takes 37 minutes to fully charge this battery.
There is a standard variant of Mi Mix Fold with Gorilla Glass back and ceramic texture. There is also a Ceramic Special Edition, Both the versions of the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold are going on pre-order in China later today. The 12/256GB model is priced at CNY10,000, 12/512GB costs CNY11,000 and the top end 16/512GB model will be available for CNY13,000.
