Toshiba is finally out of the laptop business. The company has sold the remaining stakes of its PC business to Sharp to exit the segment.
Toshiba sold an 80.1 percent stake of its PC business to Sharp for $36 million almost two years back. Sharp renamed the division Dynabook Now it has sold the remaining 19.1 percent to sharp last month. That means Dynabook has become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sharp.
Toshiba made its first laptop T1100 back in 1985. T1100 came with rechargeable batteries, a 3.5-inch floppy drive, and 256K of memory. It was priced at around $2000. After that, Toshiba launched several models and was one of the leading PC manufacturers during the 1990s and early 2000s.
Sharp is now trying its best to make its name in the laptop divest. It showcased some of its new laptop models at CES 2020. Dynabook has good business laptop line-ups Let’s see if Sharp gets success in attracting consumers.
