Microsoft owned popular professional social network LinkedIn has announced video content created by users hosted on LinkedIn itself. Initially, this is available to only influencers for testing. Later, this feature will be available to more users.

LinkedIn has introduced 30-second videos from LinkedIn Influencers. It has invited 500 Influencers on LinkedIn to share their thoughts on trending topics and news through a video.

When the Influencer you follow posts a video, that video will appear directly in your feed. You can watch few videos here

Linkedin videos run in-stream on users’ feeds on desktop and can also be viewed in full screen. On LinkedIn’s iOS and Android apps, videos will pop out into blackened screens. In both cases, you see carousel of more videos either from that Influencer and from others answering same question.

For recording purpose, LinkedIn has created a special iOS and Android app called “Record”. As of now, this app is only accessible to these Influencers.

This is a smart move by LinkedIn. We have already seen a big boost in video consumption on social media in past few months. Facebook, Twitter and other social platforms are also trying to boost their videos and hence LinkedIn should also do the same to be in competition.
