OnePlus opensourced OxygenOS before OnePlus 3 launch

OnePlus Marshmallow

OnePlus has announced its plan to make it proprietary Android-based OS, the Oxygen OS open source. This move has been done just before the official release of the OnePlus 3 and shows the company’s willingness to make sure that they could get the maximum help in making that the experience of the operating system comes out the best.

The OS going open source is definitely a good thing as the developers can now go to GitHub and download the source code and make edits develop their own version of the OxygenOS. You can also send a pull request from the company after which the company will review the code and make the change available in the next update. Another important aspect of the availability of the code is that anyone can make changes in the code of the things like the Kernel and make a custom OS that has all the features that are tailored to the user’s needs.

This move was first reported by XDA-developers and was received quite well across the community with the users waiting eagerly to see the custom ROMs for the OnePlus device series.

Like the OnePlus One, OnePlus is trying to claim the throne of the most developer friendly device in the market. However, we were disappointed with the update frequency of the OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X devices. The announcement is also a bit suspicious as it perfectly aligns itself to the release of another ROM called Paranoid Android, which is coming back to the developer community after a long interval of gap.
