According to a new report that has been making rounds on the Internet, the Chinese manufacturer, Huawei is building its own mobile operating system. According to the company, this move will decrease their dependence on the Android operating system.

Amir Efrati of The Information reports that the Chinese company is “secretly developing an alternative mobile operating system”, citing three people briefed on the project.

The report also claims that the project is still in the early days of conception and also includes the ex-employees from Nokia. Abigail Brody, who is a former Apple creative director has been hired by Huawei to be the chief user experience designer. When contacted, she declined to comment on the new OS but did indicate that she is meeting the team in August. As of now, the details related to the new OS from Huawei are limited.

The report also adds that she will also be making changes to the Android-based custom skin, the Emotion UI. Without revealing much about the changes she hinted that the new Emotion UI version releasing this fall will deal with “glaring cosmetic issues” and “pain points.”

It’s worth noting that Brody will be working on making sure that the Emotion UI resembles the Android’s Material Design and reduce the elements that make it look like iOS.

According to a separate report which was published by 9to5Google, the EMUI will be closer to the stock experience which we are used to seeing on the Nexus devices. There will be an addition of the Huawei-made elements. This move is quite similar to Samsung’s attempt with Tizen and Amazon’s decision to use its Android-based Fire OS for its tablet devices.

We would like to see how the operating system performs and the changes that the company will make finally. Do let us know what you think in the comments section.
