We all know that tech companies are working on smart wearables to make our life more connected and easier. For past few years, companies have been working on smart contact lenses to offer information directly at your eyes. Google also introduced Smart Contact Lens project around 2 years back. Now, Samsung’s patent filing revealed that it is working on a smart contact lens with the built-in camera.

Samsung has been granted the patent in South Korea for the contact lens with display. It will also be equipped with camera, antenna and several sensors. The camera is also there which will be controlled by blinking. The display projects images directly into the eye of the wearer. It will also be connected to an external device, a smartphone for processing.

Main reason for the development of this smart contact lens is to provide better experience augmented reality. But smart contact lens with camera will raise a privacy debate. This kind of devices can breach privacy of other people.

Though Samsung has been granted the patent, it is not clear when it will use this in a product. Many times we have seen companies getting patents but never actually use that in a product for consumers.
