As expected, Facebook has finally launched Messenger platform with chatbots. With this, Facebook will allow businesses to provide automated response, content and support through chatbots. Facebook officially calls it “bots on Messenger”.
Facebook wants its Messenger platform to become the best alternate of toll free numbers. Unlike, toll free numbers, chatbots will offer better options like sending links, showing images and providing product details.
Facebook also demonstrated the chatbot on 1-800 Flowers support. Company showed how you can order flowers by just sending its Messenger bot a friend’s name.
“To order from 1-800-Flowers, you never have to call 1-800-Flowers again,” said Zuckerberg. “You don’t have to install an app or enter your credit card.”
Facebook has opened the bot API for developers to build chat programs. Other possible usage will be getting news from news and media companies, booking a seat in restaurants and order a product online. As of now, Facebook is now allowing payment via Messenger.
Soon, you will start seeing Facebook’s live chat buttons on different online stores and business websites. Clicking on this will redirect users to Messenger where bot or human can take over the conversation.
