Google Search now includes results from Apps; Lets you access app content without installing app

Google started as search engine to find content from millions of websites around the globe. But Internet is not the same as it used to be few years back. Now most of the people access Internet on mobile devices. So mobile apps came to let users access content easily. To make the content of these apps searchable, Google started listing apps content back in 2013. But apps needed to have a matching web content to be listed on Google search. But with app-only model, apps do not offer any website. To make the content of these apps searchable, Google has announced a major update. Now, it will list app-only content too and lets users access the content without even installing apps.

Now, Google search results will also include content from apps. You can access the content of these apps without any installing the app. Google will stream the content from search via its new experimental cloud-based technology. It is the improved version of app indexing.

You will also have an option to install the app if you want to use it permanently.

This feature is very good for services which work on app-only model. In India, we have Myntra and various other startups which offer content only in app. To make this listing possible, app developers will have to implementing app-indexing. It will help Google to access and understand content of the app.

As of now, this feature is limited to select apps including HotelTonight, Chimani, Daily Horoscope or New York MTA Subway Map. But Google plans to expand it soon to add more apps.

These search results will be available for few users in United States to see how they are responding. Initially, Users need to use Google search app on devices running on Android Lollipop or higher. Streaming app content requires good Internet connectivity, so it will not be available for users on slow internet connection. Later, it will be available to all users and will also start including iOS apps too. Links to launch the app will be supported by the browsers which supports deep-linking technology.
