John Chen BlackBerryWhile speaking at Code Mobile conference in California, BlackBerry CEO John Chen made a surprising announcement about company’s future. According to him, BlackBerry may exist handset business if it fails to become profitable in a year.

He said that the USP of BlackBerry’s handset was security which is must for business users. This is the reason BlackBerry phones are basically for business users. BlackBerry was in handset business because it was adding value in market.

This announcement comes soon after BlackBerry announced its Android powered smartphone BlackBerry Priv. This phone is the last chance for company to grab attention. It already failed with its BlackBerry 10 OS. Now with Android’s popularity and BlackBerry’s security features, BlackBerry wants to give users a handset they would like to have. Chen also confirmed that BlackBerry will abandon BB10 if it gets success in bringing all BlackBerry security features to Android.

BlackBerry can try its luck in smartphone market for 1 year only. After that, it will exit the smartphone business to focus on its service division.
