Facebook Messenger for Android reaches 1 billion downloads

Messenger Facebook Messenger has achieved a big milestone of reaching 1 billion downloads on Android. With this new milestone, Messenger has joined Facebook, WhatsApp, Gmail, YouTube, Google Search, and Maps apps club of 1 billion downloads. It is worth to mention that Facebook is the only company after Google to cross 1 billion downloads for its apps.

David Marcus, VP of product Messaging at Facebook, posted the snapshot of Play Store download count to let their friends know about this milestone.

Number of downloads is not the same as number of active users. There are so many users who download the app but does not use it regularly. But Facebook is trying its best to push the messenger app to more number of users.

Facebook messenger offers features like text messaging, social sharing, picture sharing, and even phone calls or video calls. Money transfer feature is also on the way. Facebook has also announced messenger as platform with apps in it. To make messenger interesting, It also launched messenger for web. Facebook is also bringing Facebook chat for businesses to allow them to use this messenger as customer support tool.

Facebook is also forcing mobile app users to use messenger to access conversations. Conversations are not available in Facebook app. This is the reason, Facebook has seen good number of active users on Messenger in past few months.

Facebook is also planning to bring more integrations of Messenger in our work related with mobiles.
