Update: We have modified the content of article based on official press release we received today. Company calls it the music purchase store not the music streaming service. There are few other changes in the usage rights too. So, we thought to rewrite the whole article in place of adding the update seperately.
Popular publishing label Saregama-HMV has launched a music purchase store with over 1.1 lakh songs in 14 languages. This store lets customer listen songs and then download for the nominal fee.
Users can listen all songs for free. If they want to download, they will have to pay Rs, 9 per song. Customers will have various payment options including credit cards, debit cards and net banking. Song once bought, it can be transferred to any computer or mobile phone.
Mr. Vikram Mehra – MD Saregama says “Research feedback indicated that with most music stores having stopped selling music CDs, there is customer frustration about lack of any option for buying evergreen songs in high quality. Hence, we thought of launching a web based store where every lover of vintage music in and out of India can own original music in high quality at a click of a button.”
Saregama already has partnership with existing music streaming services who acts as distributors of Saregama portfolio. Now with its own music purchase store, company wants to directly connect with their customers. Customers can also listen music, so it can also be used as a music streaming service. But main focus of the website is to offer songs to download.
As of now, the service is only available on web. But company has already started working on mobile apps. Mobile apps are expected to come next month. Availability on mobile apps will be fruitful for the customers.
