Uber confirmed that the information of its driver was breached last year by a third-party. Company published a blog post revealing the information about the data breach.

Uber came to know about the breach on September 17, 2014. While investigating the issue, Uber security team came to know that its database was accessed on May 13, 2014 by a third party. Information of 50000 drivers were accessed but it is a small percentage of current and former drivers. Files which were accessed only contained name and driver’s license number of some driver partners.

Company also confirmed that there is no proof of misuse of information. Company has already started informing all the drivers about this incident.

To avoid any misuse of information, Uber says it will offer a free one-year membership of Experian’s ProtectMyID Alert to the drivers affected by this data breach. It is an identity theft protection service.
