As of now, this encryption is available for one-on-one text messaging. Support for group chat and media files will be added in near future. Whatsapp has millions of users, so the deployment of this feature will be an incremental process because TextSecure protocol support will have to be added in each WhatsApp client. Right now, this TextSecure protocol has only been rolled out for Android clients/ Most recent Android client release includes the support for TextSecure encryption protocol. Support for other platform will also be rolled out soon.

WhatsApp has more than 600 million users. So, it will take time to install the TextSecure support in these number of WhatsApp clients. Open Whisper CTO Moxie Marlinspike confirmed that it took around six months to get the code ready for such a large deployment.

Change is nearly invisible and users will not see anything from their side.
