Popular photo service Twitpic has announced to shutdown the service on September 25. Company decided to shutdown after it was threatened by Twitter to block its API access if it did not drop the trademark filing.
“A few weeks ago Twitter contacted our legal demanding that we abandon our trademark application or risk losing access to their API. This came as a shock to us since Twitpic has been around since early 2008, and our trademark application has been in the USPTO since 2009,” Noah Everett wrote.
Noah also said that Twitpic does not have enough funds to fight Twitter. So, they have decided to shut down.
In few days, Twitpic will be launching a photo export feature to allow users download their photos.
