Google Buys Music Streaming Service Songza

On Tuesday, Google has announced the acquisition of music streaming service Songza. Google will use it for improving its Play Music Offering. Terms of deal were not disclosed.

Songza is a different kind of music streaming service which offers best playlist curated by music experts. It is available for web, iOS, Android and Chromecast.

Google has no plans to change the Songza in any way and service will be available. But Google will use the technology to improve other Google products.

“we’re thrilled to welcome +Songza to Google. They’ve built a great service which uses contextual expert-curated playlists to give you the right music at the right time. We aren’t planning any immediate changes to Songza, so it will continue to work like usual for existing users. Over the coming months, we’ll explore ways to bring what you love about Songza to Google Play Music. We’ll also look for opportunities to bring their great work to the music experience on YouTube and other Google products,” Google announced.

Songza currently has around 5.5 million active users. But company has not disclosed the number of users who subscribed for ad-free service. It has also raised $6.7 million in funding from investores.
