Syrian Electronic Army has created another buzz by modifying the domain records of Facebook. They did this after hacking into Mark Monitor, domain protection and brand management company.

They posted an image on Twitter showing the whois records of Facebook.com in which we can clearly see registrant Email as [email protected].

SEA also boasted to change the name servers but we were able to access Facebook. While asking about this, they confirmed that they changed name servers but it taking long time in transferring. They also posted the images of Mark Monitor dashboard from where they could manage domain of Facebook. Not only the Facebook, they also posted an image showing domains of amazon, Google and yahoo which they could hack. Few minutes after attack was disclosed, Mark Monitor taken down their portal. It may be the reason why they couldn’t do any changes in Google, Yahoo or Amazon’s domains.

We tried to contact Mark Monitor about their attack, but couldn’t get any response.

To be clear, we have no evidence except the images posted by SEA. We did not see any effect on Facebook. We will have to wait for official confirmation from Mark Monitor to know what exactly happened few hours back.
