Google Acquires BigDog Maker Robot company Boston Dynamics

Earlier this month, we reported that Google is working on robots with Android make Andy Rubin. Google has already acquired 7 robots company for this secret project. Now, Google has acquired one more company Boston Dynamics which works on Robot dogs. Boston Dynamics was founded back in 1992 and works for US Military. Google also confirmed this acquisition. Financial terms of the deal was not disclosed, but The New York Times reported that Boston Dynamics will honor its project with DARPA and US Military arm,

Boston Dynamics basically focus on animal robots who can run faster that the fastest human with a sense of balance. This deal makes it clear that Google is working on building autonomous robots to use it in manufacturing process. If we are thinking right, we would see robots working in packaging and delivery process.

Boston Dynamics walking robots are really impressive. It can walk and run better than human, It can also handle surfaces which in some cases are challenging for a normal human. Its popular robots are WildCat, Petman, BigDog and few other.

Mr. Rubin calls his robotics effort a “Moonshot” but has nothing more to say about this. He does not want to reveal anything till he has something prototype to show. He also said that he does not expect initial development to go public for years. So, we have to wait for few years to see what actually Google is building.

We have already seen Google’s self driving car which runs on roads without any problem. Now, Google has a team of software and hardware makers for its upcoming robots. It appears tat Google is moving beyond robots and control systems. It want to build something we saw in many Hollywood movies.
