Google has acquired a three years old Y Combinator-backed start-up Flutter. Flutter focuses on gesture recognition technology that works with your webcam without any special hardware. Terms of deal were not disclose but sources confirm that Google Paid $40 million.
Flutter has also posted a big note on the website to confirm the acquisition. This acquisition will not affect the app and it will be available.
“When we started three years ago, our dream to build a ubiquitous and power-efficient gesture recognition technology was considered by many as just “a dream”, not a real possibility. Since then, we have strived to build the best machine vision algorithms and a delightful user experience,” Navneet Dalal, CEO of Flotter posted.
“Today, we are thrilled to announce that we will be continuing our research at Google. We share Google’s passion for 10x thinking, and we’re excited to add their rocket fuel to our journey,” he added.
Flutter comes for Windows and mac and works with few apps including VLC, iTubes, iTunes, Spotify, Windows Media Player and few other.
Google is planning to use this technology for its native apps and of course in Google Glasses. It may also be integrated with next Android version. It is clear that Google is exploring news ways of interacting with computer.
