Yahoo Buys Image Recognition Startup IQ Engines

Yahoo has announced another acquisition under Marissa Mayer’s lead. This time company has acquired image recognition startup IQ Engines. After this deal, IQ Engines has closed its sign-ups and will shut down its API in next 30 days.

Terms of deal was not disclosed by any of companies. But IQ Engines has confirmed in a statement on its website that they are joining Flickr. Team of IQ Engines will join Flickr to improves it photo organization and search.

“We are thrilled to announce that IQ Engines is joining the Flickr team at Yahoo!. As longtime Flickr fans and fellow photography enthusiasts, we look forward to working on improving photo organization and search for the community,” IQ Engines posted on its website.

IQ Engine develops image recognition software that is capable of categorizing pictures based on the people, landmark, text and objects in the picture.

In past few months, Yahoo has bought several startups and established companies including Tumblr, GoPollGo, Sumly, Astrid, Xobni, RockmeltĀ and many others.
