[Report] 1 Lakh People Face Phishing Attack Daily

Security firm Kaspersky has published a new report on cyber threats and revealed that Phishing attack has tripled in past 12 months. Report entitled, “The Evolution of Phishing Attacks’ says that Phishing has grown by 87 percent from 2011 to 2013. In this period of time, more than 37.3 million users were targeted.

Report also revealed that main target websites was yahoo, Google, Facebook and Amazon. Cyber criminals wants to hack these web accounts with phishing attack. Online gaming and payment websites like Paypal was also in the primary target of criminals.

In past one year, 102,100 Internet users the world subjected to phishing attacks every day. This is double the amount from previous year. Phishing attacks were most frequently launched from the US, the UK, Germany, Russia and India. Primary target of the attack located in Russia, the US, India, Vietnam and the UK.

“In 2012-2013, 102,100 users around the world were subjected to phishing attacks on a daily basis. In Russia, 19,000 users were attacked each day, 12,000 in the US, 10,000 in India, 6,000 in Germany, 3,000 in France, and another 3,000 in the UK,” the Kaspersky Lab report stated.

“The volume and variety of phishing attacks detected during the survey indicates that phishing is not merely one tool among many for the illegal enrichment of fraudsters, but represents a significant and visible threat. These attacks are relatively simple to organize and are demonstrably effective, attracting an increasing number of cyber criminals to this type of illegal activity. The volume of phishing attacks, which according to Kaspersky security network nearly doubled in a single year, confirms this trend”, said Nikita Shvetsov, deputy CTO (research) at Kaspersky Lab.

Phishing is one of the most used attack over the Internet. It involves fake login page of websites to steal login credentials. We advised users to check login URL each time before entering login credential.
