Search giant Google has launched a nice web app “Person Finder” to offer information about missing people in flood affected areas. This move came after the natural disaster in Uttarakhand in which thousands of people are missing.
This new app helps users in searching for a person affected by disaster. Google also said that it is not reviewing data for accuracy. All data entered in the website will be available for public. Google has also launched Person Finder API so that NGOs and Government agencies can access the database.
Since last week, the state of Uttarakhand in India has been grappling with severe floods. Given that most of these areas are highly inaccessible and have intermittent communication, we in the Google Crisis Response team are opening up Person Finder — a tool that can help trace the missing people in flood impacted regions of Uttarakhand. This version is available in both Hindi and English,” Google announced.
You can access the database for affected people in Uttrakhand Floods. If you have information about a person, you can enter it in the tool so that people looking for them can find them.
This tool helped in finding people back in 2011 in Japan after a 8.9-magnitude earthquake that triggered a 13-foot tsunami.
