Popular microblogging website has mistakenly reset the password its more than 140 million users. It was a routine security test in which Twitter was identifying compromised accounts. Many high profile accounts were also affected with this including TechCrunch.
If you are also having problem in login in to your account, you should reset your password.
“We’re committed to keeping Twitter a safe and open community. As part of that commitment, in instances when we believe an account may have been compromised, we reset the password and send an email letting the account owner know this has happened along with information about creating a new password. This is a routine part of our processes to protect our users,” Twitter said in its blog on Thursday.
“In this case, we unintentionally reset passwords of a larger number of accounts, beyond those that we believed to have been compromised.”
After this accident, people were thinking that Twitter has been compromised and mass accounts have been hacked. Carolyn Penner, a spokeswoman for the social-networking site, declined this and said that the problem occurred due to error by the company person. Nothing has been compromised.
Twitter also advised users to read password protection guide and keep account secure.
