Google to Notify users affected by DNSChanger

Google will now notify all users affected by DNSChanger malware. If a user use Google search with an affected system, Google will show a warning message saying, “We believe that your computer is infected with malicious software. If you don’t take action, you might not be able to connect to the internet in future.”

It will also show a link saying “Learn how to remove this software.” Clicking on this link will take you to a page where it help users with step to change DNS settings and prevent this malware attack.

DNSChanger is the malware which changes DNS settings of a system and then redirects system to some advert pages and make some money for its creator.

Although FBI got control on the server of DNSChanger and seized it. But millions of computer systems are still infected with this malware. And those people do not know how to remove this. Some antivirus als helps users but millions of system are still infected. So Google has decided to join the force now.

“Starting today we’re undertaking an effort to notify roughly half a million people whose computers or home routers are infected with a well-publicized form of malware known as DNSChanger,” Google announced.

“Our goal with this notification is to raise awareness of DNSChanger among affected users. We believe directly messaging affected users on a trusted site and in their preferred language will produce the best possible results,” it added.

“While we expect to notify over 500,000 users within a week, we realize we won’t reach every affected user. Some ISPs have been taking their own actions, a few of which will prevent our warning from being displayed on affected devices. We also can’t guarantee that our recommendations will always clean infected devices completely, so some users may need to seek additional help,” Google explains
