What is Google Bard? Everything You Need To Know

Google Bard

Back in February Google unveiled its AI chatbot called Google Bard. Initially, it was only available to selected users, but anyone can now use Google Bard. Bard is similar to OpenAI’s artificial intelligence-powered chatbot ChatGPT. In this detailed article, I will explain Bard, its usage, and other things you need to know about Google Bard.

What is Google Bard?

Google Bard is a large language model AI chatbot developed by Google AI. Google Bard has been trained on a massive dataset of text and code. It can generate text, write creative content, answer your questions, and translate languages. Bard can also write codes in different programming languages and solve math problems.

The initial version of Google Bard was using a lightweight model version of LaMDA. So, it required less computing power. The recent version of Google Bard is powered by a large language model (LLM) PaLM 2 that was unveiled by Google at Google I/O 2023.

When you ask something, Bard first understands your query breaking it down into component parts. Then it uses its knowledge to find the most relevant information. After it finds information, it generates the response.

Things Google Bard can do

  • Answer your questions in an informative way
  • Generate different creative content
  • Translate languages
  • Write
  • Code
  • Simplify complex topics
  • Answer math problems
  • Help you to explain new discoveries

For now, Google is strictly text-based, but it will soon also be able to provide responses with images. Users will also be able to upload images in their prompts. Google also confirmed that Bard will soon get Text-to-image generation.

How to access Google Bard?

Google Bard can be accessed at bard.google.com. Google Bard requires you to log in with your Google account before you can use it.

Google Bard

When you first open Bard, You see Bard’s introduction and a few ideas of how Bard can help you. You also see a text box at the bottom where you can enter your prompt to get responses. When you enter a prompt, Bard will take a few seconds and then generate responses.

It provides three different drafts in answer. You can check all the drafts using the “View other drafts” link at the top right corner of the responses. After the response, it also provides some search suggestions on a similar topic. Bard also allows users to export content generated by it to Gmail and Google Docs. So, It also makes it easier to use the generated content.

Google Bard can also write codes and it supports over 20 programming languages. This Ai chatbot can also explain code and it also provides the source to the code it provided in the response.

Google Bard limitations

Unlike ChatGPT which has been trained on data only up to September 2021, Google Bard has access to the internet. So, it can reference current events and answer your queries related to any latest discoveries and events. But Google Bard may still be wrong. Google also admits that Bard is prone to hallucinations. So, you cannot blindly trust the responses given by Google Bard.

Unlike ChatGPT, Google Bard doesn’t save chats. If you close the Window, your chats are gone. But you can export the responses of Bard.

Is Google Bard Free?

Google Bard is free and is available to anyone. We also have no idea if Google has plans to introduce paid plans similar to ChatGPT Plus subscription.
