This will reset your homepage, new tab page, search engine, and pinned tabs. It will also disable all extensions and clear temporary data, like cookies. Your bookmarks, history, and saved passwords will not be affected.
Step 2: Change Your Default Search Engine
After resetting the Chrome settings, you need to change the default search engine back to Google. Click on the three-dot menu again and select Settings. On the left-hand menu, click on Search engine. Click on Manage search engines and site search. Find Yahoo in the list of search engines. Click on the three dots next to Yahoo and select Remove from list. If Yahoo is set as the default, choose a new default search engine by clicking on the three dots next to your preferred search engine (e.g., Google) and select Make default.
Step 3: Remove Suspicious Extensions
In many cases, a Chrome extension changes the default search. So, you need to check all the installed Chrome extensions and remove any suspicious extensions. Click on the three-dot menu, go to More Tools, and select Extensions. Look for any unfamiliar or suspicious extensions that could have altered your settings. Common signs include extensions you don’t remember installing or those related to Yahoo or search redirects. Click Remove on any extensions you find suspicious. Confirm the removal in the pop-up.
Step 4: Scan for Malware
If you are still facing the problem, your system might have an adware. So, you need to use a reliable antivirus or antimalware program to scan your computer and remove any threats. If you don’t already have one, download a reputable antivirus program. Run a complete scan of your computer to detect and remove any malware. After the scan and removal process, restart your computer to ensure all changes take effect.

Some free download websites also bundle adware that installs software but also changes the default search.
