PAN Card is a mandatory document for paying taxes in India. PAN stands for Permanent Account Number. It is used for tracking financial transition and can also be used as a proof of identity. The Income Tax department of India issues PAN Card and it is valid for a lifetime. If you accidentally lose your PAN Card, you don’t need to apply for a new PAN Card. Having more than one PAN Card can lead to a penalty of Rs. 10000. So, get a duplicate copy of your PAN Card in place of getting a new PAN Card. What to do if you have lost your PAN Card?

PAN Card is an important document. If you have accidentally lost it, you don’t need to be panic. It is recommended to register your FIR in the police station. This is to avoid the misuse of your lost PAN Card. Any person with malicious intention can use your PAN Card to get a new SIM card or for any other purpose. However, it is not mandatory to file an FIR for getting aduplicate copy of your PAN Card.

How to Apply for a duplicate PAN card online

It is really easy to get a duplicate PAN card. You also don’t need to do an FIR to get a duplicate copy of your PAN Card.

To apply for a duplicate PAN Card, you don’t need to visit the Income Tax office or any center. You can apply it online. Just visit the website of NSDL or UTI. You will see a simple form for filling an online application for the PAN Card.

Apply for a duplicate PAN card online

In Application Type, select the third option saying “Changes or Correction in existing PAN Data/ Repring of PAN card (No changes in existing PAN data)”.

Then enter your details including Name, Date of Birth, Email Address, Existing PAN number, and Mobile Number.

Once you submit the data, you will be directed to the payment page. After you have made the payment, the website will generate a 15-digit acknowledgment number. This acknowledgment number can be used to check the status of your duplicate PAN card.

The duplicate PAN Card will be dispatched within 2 weeks.
