Echo Pop vs Echo Dot: What are the differences?

Echo Pop vs Echo Dot

Amazon recently released the all-new Echo Pop, a new member of its Echo speaker family. This new speaker features a semi-spherical design and has Alexa built-in. It is also the cheapest latest generation Alexa speaker currently available. I have already published a detailed review of Echo Pop. Currently, Echo Dot 5th Generation is available at Rs. 4999 and Echo Pop is available at Rs. 4999. So, a lot of people are thinking if they should save Rs. 500 and get Echo Pop, or Echo Dot is better. So, I thought to write about the differences between Echo Pop and Echo Dot to let you know what should you choose based on your needs.

Echo Pop vs Echo Dot

Echo Pop has a semi-spherical shape with a front-firing speaker. The Led light strip is at the top edge. Echo Dot has a spherical design where the illuminated ring is around the base. Echo Dot measures 3.9 inches x 3.9 inches x 3.5 inches, but Echo Pop measures 3.9 inches x 3.3 inches x 3.6 inches. So, Echo Pop is a little smaller but takes up almost similar space. Both Echo Pop and Echo Dot share the same controls, but Echo Pop lacks an Action button.

Echo Pop comes in Charcoal, Glacier White, Lavender Bloom, and Midnight Teal colors. All these colors look vibrant and improve the home interior. On the other hand, Echo Dot comes in three colors including Charcoal, Glacier White, and Deep Sea Blue.

Echo Pop comes with a 1.95-inch front-firing speaker and Echo Dot features a 1.73-inch driver. Although the speaker drive is larger in Echo Pop, Echo Dot is still better in terms of audio quality. Echo Pop sounds good but isn’t good when it comes to bass and thump. Echo Dot 5th Gen sounds better and offers good bass and thump. So, Echo Dot is better when it comes to sound and music experience. Both devices support Lossless High Definition streaming and A2DP.

The most notable difference between Echo Dot and Echo Pop is in sensors. Echo Pop lacks Motion Detection and Temperature Sensor. These sensors let users set routines based on motion detection and temperature. This ability isn’t possible in Echo Pop. But you can still control smart devices connected to the Alexa app using Echo Pop.

Both devices house Amazon’s AZ2 Neural Edge processor for offering faster processing. These devices can also act as an Eero node to extend the home mesh network. You can ask Alexa for information, play music, set up reminders, and control smart home devices.

The Amazon Echo Dot is the clear winner if you compare the sound and features. So, try to get Echo Dot if possible. Echo Pop is a good option if you want an Echo speaker to get into the Alexa ecosystem. It offers a similar Alexa experience. You can still control your connected smart devices using Alexa voice commands.
